Completely reinstalling or removing MoneyWiz on a device allows you to remove the local database file which is useful if you need to pull the "fresh" set of data from MoneyWiz Cloud/SYNCbits (which is why we sometimes call it "clean sync") or just completely remove MoneyWiz from a device. Please note that sometimes just removing MoneyWiz from your device is not sufficient - please read on to learn the details.

iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

If you wish to make a backup beforehand, please see this guide.

Due to iOS design, removing an application from your device also deletes all associated data. For this reason, it's sufficient to just remove the application and the iOS system will do the rest - if you install MoneyWiz again, it'll be completely cleared.

That’s it! When you start MoneyWiz again it’ll have no data so you can sign in to your SYNCbits account again – unless you wanted to erase SYNCbits data and start over – in which case you obviously don’t need to sign back in.

Android

If you wish to make a backup beforehand, please see this guide.

You’ll need to use some File Manager application and browse to the SD card memory (or your internal device memory) and then find MoneyWiz_2 folder (it's called this way regardless of version used) – remove it entirely. Then please go to General Settings on your Android device -> Tap Backup & Reset -> Remove the checkmark next to Auto Restore of the apps after their reinstall. Now after app reinstall you should see a totally empty database -- that is important. If after reinstall you are still signed in, please check again as the local data was not removed.

macOS (MacBook, iMac)

Removing the application file from Applications folder will not remove the database file. But it's sufficient to remove the database file, leaving the application file intact.

  • If you're using MoneyWiz 2024 or newer, please see this article for information on how to access the Mac database folder.

  • If you're using MoneyWiz 1/2 or 3, please see this article for information on how to access the Mac database folder.

Once you find it, please find this folder and place it to Trash – unless you wish to make a backup of your data. In that case just move this file somewhere else.

If you do need to remove MoneyWiz for Mac for some reason, please go to Finder > Applications > find MoneyWiz.app and drag it to Trash. However, it is not necessary in majority of cases.

Windows

It’s sufficient to remove the database file, leaving the application intact. You can learn how to access your database folder here.

If you do need to remove MoneyWiz for Windows from your PC for some reason, you can uninstall it like any other application: going to Settings > Applications > Remove applications (the exact wording will depend on the version of Windows you use). However, it is not necessary in majority of cases.
