If you need to upgrade your MoneyWiz version, the easiest way to transfer all of your data is to simply signup with your credentials - email and password. In case you've forgotten your cloud account's credentials or you simply don't have one, then read on to see how you can transfer your data files.

Locate original database

For users of MoneyWiz 3 downloaded from our website the file path is:

~/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.off-mas.free/Data/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.off-mas.free/Data/

For users of MoneyWiz 2 downloaded from our website the file path is:

~/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.off-mas/Data/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.off-mas/Data/

To access this folder, please:

  1. Open the Finder app.

  2. From the menu on the top choose Go, then Go to folder...

  3. A popup will open asking you to input the folder location and name. Copy the file from above and paste it into the box.

Make a backup of your data files

If you see a file with name ipadMoneyWiz.sqlite and that file is larger than 1MB, then you're in the right place. From here:

  1. Create an empty folder on your Desktop

  2. Copy the contents of the above folder

  3. Paste them into your new folder on the Desktop

Locate new database location

Some customers want to upgrade to MoneyWiz 3 (our legacy supported version) and others want to upgrade to MoneyWiz 2022 (the version we are actively developing). Below are their respective file paths.

For MoneyWiz 3 from the App Store:

~/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.free/Data/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.mac.free/Data/

For MoneyWiz 2023 (also from the App Store):

~/Library/Containers/com.moneywiz.personalfinance/Data/Documents/.AppData

To access the folder:

  1. Open the Finder app.

  2. From the menu on the top choose Go, then Go to folder...

  3. A popup will open asking you to input the folder location and name. Copy the file from above and paste it into the box.

Finally, move the contents

You can now copy the contents from your new folder on the Desktop to the folder of your new version of MoneyWiz. Once you complete this process, simply quit the new version of MoneyWiz and start it again. You should be able to see your data.

You can also watch a video of the whole process here:
